What Can I Do?
Empowering Women's Health in Kaduna through Interactive Education
This was a collaborative project I completed with a team of experts from The World Bank organization during a university course.
Our Goals and How We Approached Them
Nigerian Kaduna women in today's society face several challenges, including poverty, inequality, limited access to healthcare services, and cultural norms. These challenges contribute to the disparities in reproductive health outcomes and overall well-being of women and girls in the region and even affect the development of the society.
At the same time, some ongoing initiatives, growing awareness and advocacy in this area, and a thriving private sector are helping to address these challenges. By capitalizing on these opportunities, "What Can I Do? The Card Game" and other initiatives have the potential to meaningfully impact the health status of women in the region and promote empowerment and well-being.
Context & Background
Goals
Providing coping strategies and guidance on healthy lifestyle habits is necessary to promote physical and mental health among girls in secondary schools in Kaduna.
Improve menstrual and mental health outcomes by increasing awareness of safe sex practices, sexual risk behaviors, and available healthcare services.
Utilize technology to strengthen local community support for the mental and physical health of the target group. Work to remove barriers to accessing women's health-related information and resources.
As a UX Designer
I investigated the needs, preferences, and challenges of girls in secondary schools in Kaduna through community resources provided by the World Bank organization. Insights were gathered through interviews with hospital doctors, teachers, focus groups, and observations to inform the design process.
Game Design: I was responsible for the design of the card game format, from creating the structure and content of the game cards to incorporating elements of positive thinking knowledge and a solution-based approach.
Iterative Design Process: I drove the iterative design process, conducting three rounds of player tests in the middle and late stages of the project. This allowed us to refine the game mechanics and user experience based on insights gathered throughout the game sessions.
